In January 1960, five model homes opened in Sun City, Arizona. This was the start of a bold new venture to create the first planned community for retirees living an active, exciting lifestyle. While many thought this initiative would fail, it has instead been wildly successful! About 2,000 homes were purchased in that first year, and in 1962, Sun City developer Del E. Webb was featured on the cover of Time magazine.
