The all-new 2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz arrives to fill the niche between the SUV and the standard pick-up. This new compact truck is actually built on the same platform as the all-new 2022 Tucson, but Hyundai replaces the SUV’s interior cargo area with an open bed design that features a lockable in-bed trunk with a drain plug, which can be used as a cooler. Other cool features include enclosed “cubby” storage along the sides of the bed, a 115-volt outlet, LED lighting and bumper corner steps for easy access. An optional heavy-duty (supports up to 220 pounds), roll-up metal tonneau cover provides security and protection to cargo placed in the bed.
The Hyundai Santa Cruz offers Peoria, AZ compact truck enthusiasts two powertrains; a 2.5-liter I-4 delivering 191 hp and 181 lb-ft of torque with an 8-speed transmission, or the upgraded 2.5-liter I-4’s 281 hp and 311 lb-ft of torque with an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission featuring paddle shifters. All models are standard FWD with available HTRAC AWD. Maximum capacities are up to 1,748 pounds payload and 3,500 up to 5,000 pounds, pre-wired for towing.
